Ali Tareen, the owner of Pakistan Super League franchise Multan Sultans, has once again stirred headlines, this time for his reaction to a legal notice from the Pakistan Cricket Board.

The notice accused him of violating clauses in the franchise agreement and warned of possible contract termination. What followed was Tareen’s public “apology” video, one that quickly went viral for its sarcasm, frustration, and defiance.
According to reports, the PCB alleged multiple breaches of the PSL’s 10-year contract, apart from critical statements against the league management, and demanded a public apology from Tareen. The notice also warned that failure to comply could result in the termination of the Multan Sultans franchise and his blacklisting from the league.
Instead of issuing a conventional apology, Tareen shared a video that mixed satire with criticism. He began by recounting the PCB’s ultimatum before questioning its communication style, saying he never received “a single call, message, email, or invitation” to discuss the matter directly.
“If you were more competent, you would know these matters aren’t handled this way,” Tareen said.

Though his legal team saw no need to apologize, Tareen said he would, “because I want the PSL to improve.” His apology, however, doubled down on the same complaints that had sparked the dispute.
He “apologized” for calling out the PSL’s mismanagement, for expecting the opening ceremony to start and finish on time, and for wanting working microphones. He even mocked minor grievances mentioned in the notice, like being “10 minutes late” to a Zoom meeting.

Tareen wrapped up his message by suggesting a simple fix: “Call me over, offer me a cup of tea and a few biscuits, and let’s sit together and talk.” Moments later, he dramatically tore up the PCB’s legal notice on camera, ending with: “So, I hope you like my apology video.”
