The Los Angeles Lakers visited the Orlando Magic on Monday night, looking to bounce back from a crushing 146-115 defeat to the Chicago Bulls two days earlier. However, their struggles continued as they fell 118-106 to the Magic, marking their third consecutive loss and seventh defeat in their last 10 games.
Once again, the Lakers' defensive issues proved costly as they failed to contain Orlando’s young stars Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner. Banchero led the way with 30 points and seven rebounds, while Wagner had a team-high 32 points, nine assists, and five rebounds.
Despite the loss, Luka Doncic delivered another stellar offensive performance, finishing with 32 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists.
This marked Doncic's 10th 30-point game since joining the Lakers, tying him with former LA point guard D’Angelo Russell for 25th all-time in franchise history for most 30-point games. Remarkably, Doncic reached this milestone in just his 18th game with the team.
The five-time All-Star recorded his first 30-point outing as a Laker in a dominant victory over the Denver Nuggets on Feb. 22. He later posted his highest-scoring performance in purple and gold with 45 points in a loss to the Milwaukee Bucks on March 13.
NBA fans have been reacting to this news.
"You know how crazy that is to do this and only been on the team for a month," a fan pointed out. "DLo had two different stints!
"That was fast!" a fan exclaimed.
"D’lo got tied in less than half a season LMAOAOAOA," another wrote.
While Doncic has been a bright spot, the Lakers must address their defensive woes with the playoffs quickly approaching. Despite its recent struggles, LA remains fourth in the Western Conference with a 43-28 record. However, the Lakers now trail the second-seeded Houston Rockets by 2.5 games and are just two games ahead of the sixth-seed Golden State Warriors.
The Lakers will look to snap their losing streak when they take on the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night.
