NEGAUNEE – Art fanciers are invited to the Jim Thomas Pavilion in Jackson Mine Park in the city of Negaunee tonight for an unveiling of locally produced art that will be placed on display.
The Art in the Park program was developed by Honor Credit Union with the goal of empowering student artists and enhancing community spaces. Through their art classes, Negaunee High School students submit mural concepts, which are reviewed by their teacher and Honor Credit Union, with input from the city of Negaunee.
Selected murals are painted by students and displayed on double-sided kiosks constructed by a Negaunee High School shop class. Each kiosk includes a protective roof and plexiglass panels to shield the artwork from moisture.
The city of Negaunee provided space for the kiosks along the Iron Ore Heritage Trail, allowing for easy public access and visibility of the artwork.

“By partnering with Negaunee High School and the city of Negaunee, we’re helping students develop new skills, express their creativity, and make a lasting impact through public art,” said Jamie Gollakner, Honor Credit Union community development officer. “Together, we’re creating vibrant spaces that connect people and inspire pride in the place we call home.”
Honor Credit Union plans to work with the school to rotate the artwork over time, giving new students the opportunity to participate. When murals are replaced, the original artwork will be returned to the student artists.
