We will have toss in 10 minutes. Both teams warming up in the middle. Meanwhile, just before this game we had the New Zealand Women vs Australia Women 3rd T20I at the same venue where the hosts lost a close encounter. Will the men’s team give home fans something to cheer about or Pakistan will spoil their party?
New Zealand captain Michael Bracewell has won the toss and opted to field first.
Pakistan Playing XI: Mohammad Haris(w), Hasan Nawaz, Salman Agha(c), Omair Yousuf, Usman Khan, Shadab Khan, Abdul Samad, Jahandad Khan, Haris Rauf, Sufiyan Muqeem, Mohammad Ali
New Zealand Playing XI: Tim Seifert, Finn Allen, Mark Chapman, Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham, Mitchell Hay(w), Michael Bracewell(c), Ish Sodhi, Jacob Duffy, Ben Sears, William ORourke
Here we go then. Pakistan openers are out in the middle. William ORourke with the new ball in hand. Can Pakistan go bang bang or Kiwis will once again trouble the PAK top order batters?
Two wides to begin the proceedings from O’Rourke but Pakistan can not take much advantage as there is swing on offer and O’Rourke consistently gets decent bounce. Movement and bounce both trouble Haris in the opening over.
The centurion of the third game of the series departs for his third Duck in this series. A really odd series for Hasan Nawaz. One century, three Ducks and once he score one run. Jacob Duffy with the wicket.
A really tough start for Pakistan against some good bowling from the Kiwi new ball duo of Duffy and O’Rourke.
Ben Sears was introduced into the attack in the fifth over and he started with a wide delivery. He got rid of the wicketkeeper batter Mohammad Haris on the fifth delivery. Captain Salam Ali Agha is the new batter at the crease.
    PAK – 23/2 (5)
Jacob Duffy got his second wicket in the match when he dismissed Omair Yousuf in hi second over. Ish Sodhi got rid of the new batter Usman Khan in his first over. Pakistan are four wickets down.
    PAK – 43/4 (8)
James Neesham was introduced into the attack in the 11th over and he got rid of Abdul Samad on his second delivery of the match. He conceded just two runs and now, half of the Pakistan team is back to the pavilion.
    PAK – 54/5 (11)
Shadab Khan and Salman Ali Agha are trying hard to rebuild the innings and form a partnership which can take their team to a respectable total. The duo has added run-a-ball 20 runs but they have the ability to switch the gears in the death overs.
    PAK – 71/5 (14)
Salman Ali Agha and Shadab Khan went berserk in the 15th and 16th over and added 30 runs in the two overs. But James Neesham got rid of Khan in his third over and also dismissed Jahandad Khan in the same over.
    PAK – 109/7 (17)
Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha completed his half-century with a four but lost his wicket just two balls later. James Neesham too the wicket of Sufiyan Muqeem on the last delivery of his spell to complete the five-wicket haul. Jacob Duffy conceded just five runs in the last over which helps Pakistan post 128 runs on the board. Now, New Zealand need to make 129 runs to win this match.
    PAK – 128/9 (20)
    Brief Score: PAK – 128/9 (20)
    Salman Ali Agha – 51 (39), Shadab Khan – 28 (20) | James Neesham: (4-0-22-5)
Jahandad Khan came to bowl the first over for Pakistan while defending a modest target of 129 runs. Tim Seifert and Finn Allen opened the batting for New Zealand and Seifert hit two sixes and a four to collect 18 runs from the first over.
    NZ – 18/0 (1)
The opening duo of Finn Allen and Tim Seifert went berserk from the word go and after collecting 18 runs from the opening over, they collected 14, 13 and 13 runs from the next three overs respectively. Pakistani bowlers are desperately searching their first breakthrough.
    NZ – 58/0 (4)
Sufiyan Muqeem was introduced into the attack in the seventh over and he dismissed the opener batter Finn Allen for 27 runs. Tim Seifert has completed his half-century and going hard on Pakistan bowlers. Mark Chapman is the newest batter at the crease.
    NZ – 96/1 (7)
Tim Seifert kept hitting big runs from the one end and Mark Chapman was also trying to do the same and lost his wicket to Sufiyan Muqeem. He got his second wicket in the match. May be a late introduction from Salman Ali Agha! Daryl Mitchell is the new batter at the crease.
    NZ – 105/2 (9)
Shadab Khan was called to bowl the 10th over and Tim Seifert welcomed him with a six. He hit three more sixes in his over to finish the match in just 10 overs. New Zealand won the match in just 10 overs while chasing a 129-run target. Seifert in unbeaten on 97 runs off just 38 balls.
    NZ – 131/2 (10)
You don’t get too many wickets in franchise cricket. The opening bowlers helped us. Always a privilege to play for NZ. Always jump in to play for this side. Always keen for the opportunity. More than happy to see the guys at the top to smack it around.
There was only one way to play. I wanted to play the way I wanted to play. The wickets were bouncy. Tonight, few shots got away. You look at the match ups. Finn helped. We have played together. He is a great mate. It is great fun with him. Couple of weeks with the family and then off to the PSL. Few of these players would be my mates there.
They were outstanding. They outplayed us in the whole series. The way Hasan batted and Haris batted in Auckland. The way Sufiyan bowled today. When we were coming in here, the focus was on Asia Cup and the World Cup. I did alright. It doesn’t matter when you lose the series. Completely different team in the ODIs. More experience. They have played in NZ before. It will be a different ball game.
The whole bowling unit has been outstanding. Jacob has stood up and has lead the pack. The way we have been able to rotate the players. NZ cricket is in great place. Few guys were missing. The consistency we showed was pleasing. The way we bounced back from Auckland. Was pleasing. We were clinical in the rest of the 4 games.
Pakistan lost the series 1-4 and Tim Seifert was named Player of the Series for his power-hitting in the series. James Neesham was named Player of the Match for his five-wicket haul. That’s all from our side. Thank you and take care!
