CHEBOYGAN — Tuesday proved to be the end of the road for No. 2 Gladstone softball’s 2025 season.
The Braves fell in the state quarterfinal round for the third-consecutive season, this time with a 1-0 loss to No. 1 Clare at Cheboygan High School. Gladstone’s season ends with a final record of 31-5.
Senior Tia Schone was tagged with the loss, allowing one earned run off three hits with three walks and nine strikeouts. The Pioneers scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth off a double from Addison McMillan. The relay throw from Brooklyn Pendergraft to Lauren Sundquist did get Pamela Allen out at home for an out.
The Braves did have their chances to score.
Gladstone had runners on first and second with one out in the third, but Lauren Sundquist flew out to right field and Schone lined out to end the threat. The Braves had the bases loaded with one out in the fourth, and freshman Malia Quigley made contact on an 0-2 pitch, but she didn’t hit it cleanly, allowing the Pioneers to execute a 1-2-3 double play to end the threat.
Freshman Emma Trombley earned both of Gladstone’s base hits.
Kyley Wyman earned the win for Clare, allowing two hits and three walks with eight strikeouts in a complete game shutout.
