New York Daily News | Gary Phillips: We had more injury rehab news come down this weekend. Giancarlo Stanton appears to be progressing in his recovery from injuries to both elbows. Aaron Boone told reporters yesterday that Stanton has been hitting off high-speed Trajekt machines, and has been “starting to move around more outside.”
Also, after hitting the 15-day IL with a knee injury, Marcus Stroman received a cortisone injection. “Hopefully [he gets] ramped up pretty quick, and hopefully it’s something that really helps him moving forward,” Boone said. For now, it sounds as if the Yankees are planning on reinserting Stroman into their rotation if and when he recovers, possibly turning up the heat on veteran Carlos Carrasco to bounce back from his own shaky start to make his case to stick around.
New York Post | Dan Martin: Jasson Domínguez has been unspectacular to start this season, hitting well from the left side but struggling mightily as a right-handed hitter. He’s posted a near-1.000 OPS against righties, but is just 3-for-20 against southpaws. The Yankees thus far have shown a willingness to allow Domínguez to work through his struggles, which could be a boon to the young outfielder’s development, though it could come at the cost of some rough at-bats early on.
New York Daily News | Tony Paige: ($) Dave Sims, the new radio broadcaster for the Yankees, seems like he has a good attitude about replacing John Sterling. “If I was like 25 or 30, it’ll be a lot different,” Sims says. “This is my fourth decade of doing play-by-play.” Sims is a veteran, and sounds more than comfortable enough in himself to be confident in succeeding an icon. He’s been excellent on the call thus far, providing Yankees fans a smooth off-ramp from the familiar tones of Sterling.
ESPN: After helping Team USA to a second-place showing at the last World Baseball Classic in 2023, Andy Pettitte will return as pitching coach for the United States in the 2026 edition. Pettitte will coach under manager Mark DeRosa alongside a couple other former Yankees on the staff, including Matt Holliday, who will serve as hitting coach, and Brian McCann, who will be assistant manager (the latter was also on the 2023 staff). The tournament will run from March 5th to March 17th, and will be held in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Japan.
