R Ashwin is enjoying his return to the Indian ODI team. The off-spinner made his T20 comeback during last year’s World Cup and now features regularly in India’s Playing XI. The administration has so much faith in Ashwin that India’s top wrist-spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal, is warming the bench in the World Cup. Ashwin has bowled economically and taken six wickets in all five Super 12 matches for India.
Kapil Dev doubts Ashwin’s T20I skills. Kapil said the India spinner lacks confidence and believe despite taking wickets. Kapil even said that some of Ashwin’s wickets were due to batsmen’s mistakes.
Sehwag’s poetic account of Suryakumar’s T20 World Cup knock
“Ashwin hasn’t inspired me yet. It didn’t look like he took wickets today. Some batsmen got out so quickly that Ashwin couldn’t believe it. Face-hiding. Wickets give you confidence, but Ashwin has not shown the same rhythm “ABP News quoted Kapil.
Ashwin is poised to start Thursday’s semifinal against England at Adelaide Oval. Kapil feels that while the odds are stacked in Ashwin’s favour, India could surprise with Chahal.
“Management matters. Ashwin’s confidence is good. He’s played the whole competition, so he can adapt. Using a wrist-spinner can startle the adversary (Chahal). Whoever gains management and captain’s confidence will play “Kapil.
