BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla confirmed on Tuesday that the board would strictly follow the Indian government’s directive and not play any bilateral series with Pakistan moving forward.
“We are with the victims and we condemn it. Whatever our government says, we will do,” Shukla told Sports Tak. “We don’t play with Pakistan in bilateral series because of the government’s stand, and we will not play with them in bilaterals going forward.”
However, he clarified that India will continue to play against Pakistan in ICC events due to the global body’s scheduling commitments.
The attack, which took place on April 22 in the tourist town of Pahalgam, has been labelled one of the worst terror incidents since Pulwama in 2019. Several Indian cricketers and celebrities took to social media to condemn the attack, offering their condolences to the victims and their families.
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia echoed similar sentiments, expressing the board’s collective grief. “The cricketing community is deeply shocked and anguished by the tragic loss of innocent lives. We stand hand in hand with the victims’ families at this hour of tragedy,” he said.
As a mark of respect, players from both SunRisers Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians observed a minute’s silence and wore black armbands during their IPL 2025 match on April 23.
India last played a bilateral series with Pakistan in 2012-13, and the current political climate ensures that such ties remain frozen
