LORETTO — Saint Francis University is going to hold a party on Sunday, and it’s putting an invitation out there for anyone who wants to celebrate it’s men’s basketball team.
For the first time in 34 years, the Red Flash under coach Rob Krimmel are the Northeast Conference champions and will be dancing in the NCAA Division I Tournament next week.
Saint Francis will find out who, where and when it will be playing during the NCAA Selection Show on CBS at 6 p.m. this Sunday. The school will host a watch party for the Saint Francis community and fans of Red Flash basketball.
The watch party will begin at 5 p.m. at the DeGol Arena on campus, and fans are invited to join the team and learn its next destination by watching the Selection Show live. That begins at 6 p.m.
In addition, Saint Francis will be one of the schools featured on the show, which means there will be a live look-in at the team’s reaction after Saint Francis’ name is revealed in the bracket on CBS.
The first 600 fans will receive a free t-shirt, and food and drinks will also be available. A photographer will also be available to take pictures with the 2025 NEC championship trophy.
The tournament begins on Tuesday and Wednesday in Dayton, Ohio with a total of 68 teams and by Thursday, it will be down to 64.
Saint Francis won its second NEC Tournament title this past Tuesday night after a 46-43 win against Central Connecticut State in New Britain. Sophomore Daemar Kelly put the Red Flash up for good on a basket with 9.8 seconds left. Freshman Juan Cranford, Jr. was named the NEC Tournament Most Valuable Player and was joined on the All-Tournament team by junior Riley Parker.
Saint Francis went to its first NCAA Tournament in 1991 after the likes of Mike Iuzzolino and Joe Anderson won the NEC.
The Red Flash played against No. 2 seed Arizona as a No. 15 seed, staying close before losing by 13 points in the end.
