Punjab Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders Live Score Update
1.6: Xavier Bartlett to Ajinkya Rahane, No run.
1.5: Xavier Bartlett to Angkrish Raghuvanshi, 1 run.
1.4: Xavier Bartlett to Angkrish Raghuvanshi, No run.
1.3: Xavier Bartlett to Angkrish Raghuvanshi, FOUR! Just over! Almost two in two for Xavier Bartlett!
KKR’s impact sub, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, walks in at number 4.
1.2: Xavier Bartlett to Quinton de Kock, OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! Xavier Bartlett strikes with the second ball on his IPL debut! Just the start PBKS were after. Both KKR openers are back in the hut early. Swinging back into the left-hander, on a length, on the pads, Quinton de Kock looks to play the pick-up shot but gets a top edge that goes straight up towards deep backward square leg. The ball goes miles up in the air but Suryansh Shedge does well to settle under it and stabilise himself. Manages to hold onto a pressure catch.
1.1: Xavier Bartlett to Quinton de Kock, A confident shout for LBW but turned down! Josh Inglis indicates that the ball is doing too much and PBKS do not take the review. Swinging back in, on the pads, full in length, Quinton de Kock misses the flick on the inside edge and gets rapped on the front pad. The replays show that the ball would have swung past the leg stump.
Ajinkya Rahane walks in at number 3. Xavier Bartlett will steam in from the other end.
0.6: Marco Jansen to Sunil Narine, OUT! TIMBER! Marco Jansen wins the battle against Sunil Narine! First of many strikes that PBKS need to make a match out of this. Top of off from over the wicket, Sunil Narine backs away and swings across the line with a horizontal bat. The ball sneaks under the angled blade and hits the top of the off stump to dislodge the bail.
0.5: Marco Jansen to Sunil Narine, FOUR! Up and over! Pitched up by Marco, a hint of away shape, Sunil stays leg side of the ball and gets under the ball. Lifts it over cover for a boundary.
0.4: Marco Jansen to Sunil Narine, Dug in short, around off, Sunil Narine lets it go. Narine has a look but the square leg umpire is happy with the height.
0.3: Marco Jansen to Quinton de Kock, So nearly sneaked through! On the off stump, on a good length, Quinton hangs his bat out to defend. Gets an inside edge that sneaks past the stumps and rolls behind on the leg side for a single.
0.2: Marco Jansen to Sunil Narine, Slanting in at the hips, on a back of a length, Narine whips it on the bounce to Shashank Singh at deep square leg for a single.
0.1: Marco Jansen to Quinton de Kock, Jansen lands this short and wide on off, Quinton de Kock hops and reaches out for the cut. Chops it down beside the pitch on the off side for a single to get the chase underway.
All set for the chase to commence. Shreyas Iyer and his men stride out to the centre. It will be Sunil Narine and Quinton de Kock to open the innings for the Knight Riders. Marco Jansen has the new ball in hand and is raring to go. QDK will face the first ball. Here we go!
… THE RUN CHASE …
Right then, Kolkata Knight Riders need just 112 to win this contest, and if they get the opportunity, they would be looking to finish this off quickly to up their net run rate. That said, cricket has a knack for springing surprises, and the Punjab Kings will need to strike early in the Powerplay to have even a glimmer of hope in this one. Back in a bit for the chase.
Varun Chakaravarthy from KKR is up for a chat. Varun feels good about his bowling performance, although he believes the pitch was more suited to a score of 180-190 rather than the actual target. He expresses admiration for Harshit Rana’s contribution and is pleased to be playing alongside Sunil Narine, with whom he has a long-standing relationship. He notes that the dew has started to set in, which might affect the game as the ball has already started to skid off the deck.
The Kolkata Knight Riders kept chipping away at the wickets, and not a single PBKS batter showed the intent to settle in and anchor the innings. PBKS did use the impact sub on an extra batter, but to no avail, as Suryansh Shedge too perished for a single-digit score. Shashank Singh and Xavier Bartlett tried to get PBKS to a respectable total as they stitched a small 23-run partnership, but that was not enough as Shashank perished to an off-cutter from Vaibhav Arora.
The final wicket falling to a mix-up perfectly encapsulates the kind of night it has been for the Punjab Kings. It’s a stark contrast from racking up a mammoth 245 in their previous outing in Hyderabad to being bundled out for just 111 with 4.3 overs left unused. Earlier, after opting to bat first, the innings started with the openers getting off to a good start, as PBKS were 33 for no loss at the start of the 4th over, but then Priyansh Arya fell to Harshit Rana, and that started a procession of wickets.
