Philadelphia Eagles Fans Get Bad News On Training Camp Practice Window originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Philadelphia Eagles are among the few teams in the NFL that try to restrict public viewing of training camp practices as much as possible.
Unlike other organizations around the league, Philadelphia will hold just one public practice for fans at Lincoln Financial Field this training camp season, a number that has stayed at one over the last few years.
That’s bad news for fans who want to eyeball their favorites in a first-hand way.
With a loyal and passionate fan base, why would the defending Super Bowl champions be open to shutting out those fans in the first place?
Maybe that passion is too much.
Philadelphia is one of the country’s most outspoken and volatile sports cities. While that can be a great thing for an organization like the Eagles, it also can cause plenty of problems.
One bad throw, one bad drop, or one missed tackle will anger fans, even in a practice setting.
In this setup, that kind of distraction is largely eliminated.
This year’s event, slated for 6:30 p.m. on August 10, provides an almost carnival-like atmosphere, and a good time should be had by all.
But how does the team actually look on the field? You get that once glance on the team’s appearance during a practice session … and that’s it.
It can be argued that the less the fans see their team during practices, the more work the organization can get done. … But it’s a catch-22 that few teams must deal with at this level.
And having said all of that? The Super Bowl trophy says that the setup works.
