BROOKINGS — A commanding, two-pronged pitching performance by Brookings kept the Mitchell High School softball team off balance on Saturday, as the Bobcats claimed a 4-1 win in Eastern South Dakota Conference action.
Starter Tess Burns went five innings in the circle, recording 10 strikeouts while yielding two hits, one walk and one run for Brookings (10-5). For good measure, Burns provided a run of cover for herself with a third-inning solo home run, finishing with two hits, two walks, two RBIs and two runs scored. In relief, Ella Psyk tossed two innings and had four strikeouts without allowing a hit or walk.

Mitchell’s lone breakthrough on the scoreboard also came courtesy of its pitcher, as Rylee Jennings hit a fifth-inning solo home run. Matteah Graves had the other hit for the Kernels. In the circle, Jennings logged all six innings, tallying six strikeouts against seven hits and six walks.
Mitchell (5-10) hosts Tea Area in its regular-season finale on May 23 at the Cadwell Sports Complex.
