Day two of the opening round of the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy took place on Thursday (October 16). Here’s a round-up of the action.
Odisha crumbled early on day two, losing their last five wickets for 66 runs. Baroda responded slowly, getting to 127-2 in 61 overs. In Coimbatore, Ishan Kishan carried on from where he left off, scoring 173 to put Jharkhand firmly in the driver’s seat against Tamil Nadu. Sahil Raj and Jatin Pandey then reduced the hosts to 18-5, before rain forced an early call of stumps.
Shaik Rasheed backed up KS Bharat with his own century for Andhra, and they took one Uttar Pradesh wicket by stumps. In Bengaluru, Vidarbha posted 463, and Nagaland crawled to 81-3 at the end of the day.
First-class debutant Abhinav Tejrana (205) and Lalit Yadav (213) notched double centuries to power Goa to 566. Chandigarh lost one wicket by stumps. Madhya Pradesh captain Rajat Patidar continued his stellar form with a century against Punjab, with support from Venkatesh Iyer (73).
Karnataka’s R Smaran and Shreyas Gopal scored half-centuries against Saurashtra, even as Dharmendrasinh Jadeja took seven wickets. In reply, opener Chirag Jani scored 90 as Saurashtra made 200-4. On a rain-interrupted day two in Thiruvananthapuram, Maharashtra managed 239, before reducing Kerala to 35-3.
Opener Sudip Chatterjee fell two short of a century for Bengal, but did enough to help his side take the first-innings lead over Uttarakhand. Services wicketkeeper Nakul Sharma made 96 before Tripura stumbled to 56-4 by stumps. Assam’s last four wickets added 92 runs before Gujarat openers Abhishek and Aarya Desai took their side to 166-0 at stumps.
Thirteen more wickets fell on day two between Haryana and Railways, but Parth Vats distinguished himself with a century in an innings where the next best score was 25.
Shams Mulani’s 91 helped Mumbai add 50 runs on day two, but veteran Paras Dogra’s century ensured Jammu & Kashmir closed in on the total of 386 by stumps. All-rounder Deepak Hooda’s century put Rajasthan in a strong position against Chhattisgarh.
Delhi’s Ayush Doseja became the second double centurion on first-class debut of the day, with 209 against Hyderabad. Delhi declared at 529-4, and took one wicket by stumps. Himachal Pradesh posted 305, before Mukul Negi and Mayank Dagar scythed through Puducherry.
Sikkim added 43 to their day one score, getting to 308 before picking up four Manipur wickets. Bihar’s Ayush Loharuka went on to score a double century against Arunachal Pradesh as they declared with a 437-run lead before taking three wickets.
