More than 500 million hours were spent by Roblox users in sports-themed experiences in 2024, according to research from the platform and Futures Sport & Entertainment.
Roblox boasts 88.9 million daily active users across 190 countries, with more than half of its user base in the Gen Z demographic. The platform noted that over 80 per cent of its audience for sports experiences are under 35 years old, compared to 71 per cent of TV sports viewers being older than 35 years old.
A number of sports properties have launched experiences on Roblox, including the National Football League (NFL), Fifa, the National Hockey League (NHL) and the National Basketball Association (NBA).
The platform found that users immersed in sports experiences were 11 per cent more likely to watch games and sporting events that season. Meanwhile, one league saw 43 per cent of total hours spent in 2024 during its off-season, which demonstrates how Roblox offers leagues the opportunity to sustain fan engagement outside of its traditional season.
The Bundesliga last month became the first European soccer league to launch a bespoke experience on Roblox, which it hopes will reach new and existing fans.
