It’s been a week full of news for goalkeeper Stockton Short.
One day after announcing his college career will continue, Short heard his name called in the MLS SuperDraft. The Seattle Sounders selected the Weber High alum in the third round of Thursday’s draft, 81st overall.
Short, the 2022 Standard-Examiner All-Area Boys Soccer Player of the Year, spent the last four seasons at Utah Tech. He is the program’s first draft pick.
“Stockton’s playing career has not been the recent, traditional path most players nowadays go, but yet his path will always stand the test of time,” UTU head coach Jonny Broadhead said in a news release. “He chose to go to a new, Division I program for his college experience and wanted to help us accomplish as many program firsts as possible and lay the foundation for the future. He worked extremely hard to earn every honor and opportunity he has created for himself.”
At Utah Tech, Short started all 47 of his career appearances. Among Utah Tech’s all-time career marks, Short ranks third in goalkeeper minutes (4,120), saves (210) and goals against average (1.45) and fourth in shutouts (7). He had 24 saves and a 1.14 goals-against average in six games this season before injury ended his campaign.
