After adding 100 runs for the fifth wicket in India’s second innings of the ongoing second Test against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham on Saturday (July 5), India’s Test captain Shubman Gill joined Pakistan’s Hanif Mohammad, England’s Graham Gooch, Australia’s Mark Taylor, and England’s Joe Root in an elite list. The 25-year-old right-handed batter from Punjab became the first Indian and overall fifth cricketer in the world to get involved in four 100-plus run partnerships in a Test match.
In the ongoing second India-England Test at Edgbaston, Gill, during his 269-run knock in the first innings, added 203 runs for the sixth wicket with Jadeja (89) and 144 runs for the seventh wicket with Washington Sundar.
In the second innings, Gill added 110 runs for the fourth wicket with Rishabh Pant (65 from 58 balls), and 175 runs for the fifth wicket with Jadeja (69 from 118 balls).

He is also the first Indian and overall fifth batter in the world after Graham Gooch, Mark Taylor, Kumar Sangakkara, and Brian Lara to score 400 runs in a Test match.
Gill amassed a total of 430 runs in the second Test, and his tally of 430 runs helped him break the world record of scoring the most runs in a Test match by a visiting batter. Before Gill, the record of scoring the most runs in a Test match by a visiting batter was in the name of Mark Taylor. Taylor amassed a total of 326 runs for Australia in the 1998 Test match played against Pakistan in Peshawar.
