South Africa Women need 53 runs in 42 balls
It is turning into a very, very close game. South Africa have lost Marizanne Kapp and Bangladesh have yet again found an opening. The target is still achievable but if Bangladesh can manage the wicket of Chloe Tryon, this game will turn on its head.
South Africa Women need 71 runs in 60 balls
Game-changing partnership going on between Chloe Tryon and Marizanne Kapp. Tryon is 12 runs away from her half-century while Kapp has already crossed the 50-run mark and is batting on 56. The required run rate is now above seven. Bangladesh would hope they can get a wicket and that will again change the game.
South Africa Women need 100 runs
Exactly 100 runs away now stands the target. Marizanne Kapp and Chloe Tryon have put up a 55-run partnership and Bangladesh have not been able to put on a choke. They desperately need a wicket now.
South Africa Women need 119 runs
Some recovery work going on for South Africa. Marizanne Kapp and Chloe Tryon have added 36 runs in 41 balls. Bangladesh would like the wicket of Kapp here, otherwise this game might slip away.
Bangladesh are really making South African batters sweat for every run. Half of the Proteas batting line-up has been sent back and pressure is rising. Exceptional bowling so far from Bangladesh. Can they take down the big fish tonight? An upset loading?
Wow! Bangladesh have made a comeback here. It was all going South Africa’s way but now Bangladesh have struck twice within last three balls and the Proteas have some work to do. Both the set batters, Laura Wolvaardt and Anneke Bosch, are gone and Bangladesh have found their opportunity.
Laura Wolvaardt and Anneke Bosch have brought things under control for South Africa after a really tight start from the Bangladesh bowlers. The duo will soon raise a fifty-run partnership. Bosch has been really impressive with her 21 that has included five fours.
Nahida Akter had Tazmin Brits caught and bowled on the first delivery she faced and Bangladesh have started on a high in their defence of 233. A good beginning for Bangladesh and they will be looking to pick up a few more wickets to become favourites in the game.
Marufa Akter bowls a nice tight first over and concedes just three off it. South Africa openers start with caution early in this game.
What an end for Bangladesh. 57 runs from the final five overs and Bangladesh have posted 232/6 in 50 overs. Shorna Akter is the star as she slams 51 off 35 balls. Ritu Moni also smashed 19 in the 8 balls she faced. Perfect ending for Bangladesh here and they have put up a strong total.
Drama in the middle as Sharmin Akhter (50) is run out following a terrible mix-up! She cut one to point and Supta was halfway down before being sent back, leading to an easy dismissal after some sharp work from Bosch and Jafta. Despite the setback, Bangladesh will now rely on Shorna Akter to push them past the 200 mark in the closing overs.
The partnership between Sharmin Akhter (48 off 71, 6 fours) and captain Nigar Sultana (32 off 41, 5 fours) was keeping Bangladesh alive and hopeful of crossing 200. But against the run of play, Nigar departs as Mlaba strikes with Laura Wolvaardt taking a sharp catch at covers. The 77-run stand is finally broken, giving South Africa a timely breakthrough.
Bangladesh are trying their best to push the scoring rate here in Visakhapatnam, but South Africa have kept things tight with disciplined bowling. The Proteas will now aim to strike more often in the next phase and restrict Bangladesh below 200 to set up a comfortable chase later in the day.
It is hard to believe that this is the same ground 300+ were made and chased yesterday as Australia beat India by 3 wickets.
Nonetheless, The scoring has gone up eversince captain Sultana has walked in the middle and there is a boundary coming every over.
No panic for the Proteas who would want to get more wickets and bowl Bangladesh out for a low score.
Tumi Sekhukhune and Nonkululeko Mlaba have both bowled brilliantly for South Africa as Mlaba gets them their second break in the form of Farzana Houqe who got out for 30.
Originally appealed for caught behind and then reviewed, ultra-edge showed no activity but to everyone’s suprise Farzana was out lbw with three reds on ball tracking?
What will be Bangladesh’s plans with skipper Nigar Sultana walking in at 4?
Chloe Tryon helped the Proteas get their first break and since that Bangladesh have gone in a shell again.
It’s hard to comprehend what are Bangladesh’s plans as they are crawling at the moment.
South Africa have been splendid with their bowling.
The match is still hanging in the balance as it is hard to identify if it is a bright start for Bangladesh who haven’t lost any wickets so far or South Africa who have kept the scoring rates under control.
Bangladesh for most of the powerplay showed no intent to score boundaries and would need to get their burners lit.
On the other hand, South Africa have bowled with a lot of control preventing any flourish by the opposition openers.
The run-rate hovers below 3 and we might have a wicket coming soon as pressure to score runs will rise after each passing over.
Bangladesh have picked up their scoring, thanks to Farzana who got 2 fours off Klaas in the last over but still, very precise by the Proteas women to contain scoring so far.
Bangladesh have started steadily here as the Proteas are exploiting the early swing and moisture at offer.
South Africa and Bangladesh have met 21 times in women’s ODIs, with South Africa dominating the rivalry at 18 wins to Bangladesh’s 3.

The pitch at the ACA-VDCA Stadium traditionally offers a batter-friendly surface, as seen during yesterday’s India vs Australia encounter, where India posted 330 runs and batting looked straightforward for both teams despite a slightly slow outfield. With several spells of rain over the past day and a half, and the pitch under covers, expect early moisture and dampness. This could mean a touch of seam movement and initial sluggishness, making strokeplay trickier until the pitch dries out. Still, if the rain stays away, scoring becomes easier as the day progresses, though dew later on will aid batters and make gripping the ball a significant challenge for bowlers.

Rain has dominated the build-up to this match. As soon as the India vs Australia game finished yesterday, heavy showers hit the ground, bringing the covers on. Precipitation chances remain high at around 50%, with rain predicted until at least 2 PM. The game is due to start at 3 PM IST, but even as skies are forecast to clear by match time, intermittent showers could still disrupt play. Temperatures are expected to hover around 28°C, making for warm and humid conditions. Significant dew is anticipated in the evening, potentially impacting the bowlers and making life trickier for fielding sides during the second innings.
