South Africa’s dynamic wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen has officially announced his retirement from international cricket with immediate effect.
The 33-year-old took to social media on Monday to share his decision, citing a desire to spend more time with his family.
Klaasen expressed that the choice was difficult but necessary for his personal life. “It is a sad day for me as I announce that I have decided to step away from international cricket,” he posted on Instagram. “It took me a long time to decide what’s best for me and my family for the future.”
Having previously retired from Test cricket in January last year to focus on white-ball formats, Klaasen leaves behind a remarkable international career, featuring 60 ODIs, 58 T20Is, and four Tests for South Africa. His final appearance came during the ICC Champions Trophy semifinal against New Zealand earlier this year.
As one of South Africa’s explosive middle-order batters, Klaasen has been an integral part of the Proteas’ squad, with several match-winning performances to his name. His ability to accelerate the game and dominate bowling attacks will be sorely missed.
