Ace basketball player and former captain of the Indian team Hari Dutt Kapri, has passed away at his residence in Pithoragarh. He was 83 and breathed his last on Wednesday. Kapri is survived by his wife and two sons. His mortal remains were consigned to flames at Rameshwar Ghat on Thursday. He was conferred with the Arjuna award in 1969. Kapri was born in Chiiriyakhan village of Muwani area of Pithoragarh district in the year 1942. It was under his stewardship that the Indian basketball team rose from the 7th to the 4th position in Asia in the year 1969. The Indian Basketball team recorded a series of consecutive victories under his captaincy from 1965 to 1978.
India’s men’s singles hopes at the Asian Badminton Championships came to an end with Priyanshu Rajawat’s second-round exit. Taking on Japan’s Kodai Naraoka, Priyanshu was up against a wall, Naraoka’s trademark defense left him with little breathing room.
The Indian shuttler showed glimpses of fight but couldn’t sustain momentum, eventually going down 14-21, 17-21.

Major League Baseball has paid tribute to former players Octavio Dotel and Tony Blanco, who were among the victims of a nightclub roof collapse in Santo Domingo on Tuesday.
At least 98 people were killed and over 150 injured in the tragedy. Dotel, 51, played for 13 MLB teams, while Blanco, 43, represented the Washington Nationals. Also among the deceased was Nelsy Cruz, sister of seven-time All-Star Nelson Cruz.
