‘Sports Should be Kept Away From Politics’: Akram Bats For Pakistan Stars in IPL – Cricket.com

Political tensions between India and Pakistan aren’t anything new, but this time around, the repercussions on the field have been ugly. On November 4 (Tuesday), the International Cricket Council (ICC) punished four players across the two sides for breaching the Code of Conduct, with Haris Rauf receiving a two-match ban.
Considering the situation at hand, Pakistan’s great Wasim Akram has urged the ICC to keep politics away from the sport. The legendary left-arm pacer insisted that no cricketing board should be banning players from participating in their league.
"I’m sorry. But what I don’t like in cricket is politics. Straightforward. Sports should be kept away from politics. In league cricket, pick every player from every nation. Be brave. Be bigger. But that's not happening, unfortunately. And I think that's where the ICC comes in,” Akram told Wisden Cricket, reported Hindustan Times.
Akram slammed the premier T20 league, the Indian Premier League (IPL), for not allowing Pakistan players to take part in their league.
“That's where cricket boards come in. It doesn’t matter who owns the league. It doesn’t matter who owns the teams. Every player from every nation should be picked," Akram added.
While Pakistan players were allowed to take part in the inaugural IPL, their participation in subsequent seasons was banned after the 2008 Terror attacks in Mumbai. Despite Akram’s plea, it is highly unlikely that Pakistan players will be reinstated at the IPL anytime soon.
