Milan Rathnayake provides Sri Lanka a much-needed breakthrough as he traps Shadman Islam LBW for 76. It was a classic nip-backer that caught the left-hander stuck on the crease, with his bat coming down at an awkward angle. The ball struck him flush in front of off-stump and would have gone on to hit middle. Shadman didn’t bother reviewing, knowing he was plumb. His composed 76 off 126 balls, including seven boundaries, was a valuable knock for Bangladesh, but his dismissal now opens the door for Sri Lanka to claw their way back into the contest.
Drinks are taken with Bangladesh firmly in control at 120/2 after 41 overs, their lead stretching to 130. The third‑wicket stand between Shadman Islam and Najmul Hossain Shanto has swelled to 60, built on assured footwork and patient shot selection, leaving Sri Lanka’s bowlers searching for ideas in the evening session.
Shadman Islam brings up a well-crafted half-century with a single off Tharindu Ratnayake, cutting a short delivery off the back foot to deep point. It’s been a positive innings from the left-handed opener, showing intent right from the outset. Confident in his footwork and crisp in his strokeplay, Shadman has weathered early movement and maintained a steady scoring rate, providing Bangladesh with a solid foundation in their second innings.
Welcome back for the final session of Day 4, with the Test match finely balanced and four sessions left to determine a result. The tension is palpable as both sides eye key moments that could tilt the game. Bangladesh, slightly ahead, will look to build on their lead, while Sri Lanka aim to trigger a collapse and stay in the hunt. Taijul Islam resumes proceedings from over the wicket, with a slip and short leg in place—setting the tone for what promises to be an intense phase of play.
Tea on Day 4 and the first Test remains delicately poised, with Bangladesh holding a slender upper hand. Bangladesh have lost Anamul Haque before the tea break but have taken a 10-run lead against the hosts. Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque are batting and could look to play freely given the Test could be heading for a draw.

Kamindu Mendis departs! Massive wicket for Bangladesh. Mendis departs just four balls after Milan Rathanayake and Bangladesh can now think of stopping Sri Lanka short of their first innings total. Nayeem Hasan takes the massive wicket of Mendis who walks back after a tremendous 87.
Second session is now underway. Hasan Mahmud to bowl the first over. Kamindu Mendis, eyeing another century, is on strike.

Sri Lanka are now just 30 runs behind as players walk back to their respective dressing rooms after lunch has been called. A session dominated by Sri Lanka despite two wickets quite early in the day. The partnership between Kamindu Mendis (83*) and Milan Rathnayake (38*) is now of 79 runs. Things slipping out of Bangladesh’s hands now. They will have to get these wickets early.

Only a matter of time now for Sri Lanka to take lead in this game. After two early strikes, Bangladesh bowlers have completely been blunted by the duo of Kamindu Mendis and Milan Rathnayake. Mendis is also moving towards a century. Can Bangladesh stop him?

Sri Lanka should surely take lead from this point. Just 55 runs behind and Kamindu Mendis is still there. Bangladesh will have to take a couple of quick wickets to pull things back.

Sri Lanka have upped the ante a bit and Bangladesh are now under pressure. Kamindu Mendis has moved into 70s while his partner Milan Rathnayake too is looking comfortable at the crease and has crossed into double digits.

Kamindu Mendis has just launched Nahid Rana for a six. Mendis is keeping Sri Lanka in the game. The lead for Bangladesh is now just 81 runs. Kamindu Mendis is the man standing between Bangladesh and a first innings lead. Can any Bangladesh bowler get the big fish? If not, Sri Lanka will definitely cross Bangladesh.
Kamindu Mendis gets to his fifty. Even as Sri Lanka have lost two wickets so far on this day, Kamindu has looked in total control. Fifty off 86 balls for the left-hander and Sri Lanka are hoping he will take them ahead of Bangladesh’s first inning score. Bangladesh’s lead has now been shortened to 100.

Just the third over of the day and Bangladesh pick up a wicket. Dhananjaya de Silva’s stay has to end quite early on Day 4. Sharp turn for off-spinner Nayeem Hasan and de Silva hands a catch to Litton Das. Just 19 for him. Sri Lanka now have lost half of their side.
