PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers are revisiting the era that started it all.
The team unveiled a new throwback uniform on Monday that is inspired by what the first roster of players in 1933 wore. It pays tribute to the city that shaped the team, honoring Pittsburgh’s enduring influence on the team’s identity, spirit and championship legacy.
“We’re excited to unveil our new throwback uniforms which not only pay tribute to the origins of the Steelers franchise but also to the deep connection we have to our hometown of Pittsburgh,” Steelers President Art Rooney II said. “It’s especially fitting that we’ll debut these uniforms on Sunday night, (Oct. 26) when we play the Green Bay Packers, another franchise in the league with a long and rich history.”
Fans will see the team wearing a reimagined helmet with a gray mask and matte gold finish–a design inspired by Steelers uniforms from the 1930s and 1960s.
The jerseys feature black striping with oversized, black-trimmed white block numbers.
The cornerstone of the jersey, the City of Pittsburgh’s crest, sits on the left shoulder, nodding to the team’s heritage and deep connection to Pittsburgh. Oversized black block numbers fill the jersey back for a two-tone black and gold color combination.
The uniform also includes beige pants that emulate the 1933 khaki uniforms with an added modern athletic fit.
    Jones staying put
OXNARD, Calif. — Given that the Dallas Cowboys have gone 29 seasons since appearing in an NFC championship game — the longest drought in the conference — owner Jerry Jones has found himself occasionally considering whether to step down as general manager.
“Yes, momentary,” Jones said Monday. “Small fractions of seconds, I promise you.”
With his player personnel duties seemingly not changing anytime soon, Jones remains focused on how to get the Cowboys back to the Super Bowl. That seems unlikely to happen anytime soon without a happy, healthy and productive Micah Parsons in the fold, and the star defender’s contract dispute was primary topic of discussion Monday before the start of training camp.
“There’s nothing new about what we’re talking about here today relative to contracts. That’s been going on a long time now,” Jones said.
There were no updates on Parsons’ on-field status from Jones, executive vice president of personnel Stephen Jones or new coach Brian Schottenheimer ahead of the team’s annual, nearly monthlong stop in Ventura County.
It’s the second straight offseason where financial dealings with standout players risk overshadowing the Cowboys’ football preparations.
    No Levis for the year
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Tennessee quarterback Will Levis will have season-ending shoulder surgery, keeping him from competing for playing time in his third season with the Titans.
The Titans announced Monday that Levis made his decision after consulting with doctors and his representatives. The Titans report Tuesday for training camp. The Titans said in a statement they support Levis’ decision to focus on his long-term health.
Tennessee opens the preseason until Aug. 9 at Tampa Bay with the regular-season opener Sept. 7 at Denver. The Titans used the No. 1 overall pick on quarterback Cam Ward in April after going 3-14 with Levis struggling as a starter.
