T-R FILE PHOTO – GMG pitcher Colin Teske delivers to the plate during the Wolverines’ Class 1A district final against BGM on July 8, 2023, in Brooklyn. Teske was named to the all-Iowa Star Conference South Division first team for the third year in a row this summer.
For the third year in a row, GMG’s Colin Teske is a first-team all-conference pick.
The Wolverines’ top all-around player, Teske was one of seven local preps selected to the first team of the all-Iowa Star Conference’s South Division. It’s the fourth all-conference honor of his high school career after earning second-team status as a freshman.
Teske led the Iowa Star South with a .537 batting average, a .578 on-base percentage, 10 doubles and a triple this summer to represent GMG on the first team. He scored 14 runs, didn’t strike out in 41 at-bats, and stole five bases.
On the mound, Teske compiled a 4-1 record in conference play. The remainder of his pitching statistics are incomplete, but his impact was evident in his third-straight first-team selection.
BCLUW, which won its first Iowa Star title, had three first-time honorees on the first team. Senior Ryan Busch was voted to a utility role, junior Daniel Zoske was picked as an infielder, and sophomore Will Feldpausch was selected as an outfielder.
Busch batted .340 in conference play with three doubles, a triple, 16 RBIs and 14 runs scored for the Comets, who went 11-5 to win the South Division. Zoske hit .382 with two doubles and 20 RBIs while also going 4-1 on the mound with a 2.55 earned run average and 34 strikeouts in 33 innings pitched. Feldpausch finished with a .333 average in league play with 10 RBIs and 14 runs scored.
Comet head coach Matt Zoske was named the league’s Coach of the Year for the second summer in a row.
North Tama, which tied for second place in the division at 10-6, had three first-team honorees as well. Junior Kayler Morris returned to the first team as an outfielder, while seniors Gavin Rausch and Josh Dostal both got promoted after consecutive seasons as second-team selections.
Morris hit .352 with eight RBIs, 15 runs scored and 12 stolen bases. He was 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 23 1/3 innings as well. Rausch hit .326 with two doubles, nine RBIs and 13 runs scored while stealing a league-leading 21 bases. Dostal went 5-2 on the mound with a 2.26 ERA and a 1.18 WHIP (walks and hits per inning pitched).
Collins-Maxwell junior Cooper Wierson was voted the Iowa Star South’s Player of the Year after batting .393 with six doubles, a home run and 13 RBIs. On the mound he was 4-1 with a 0.53 ERA and 90 strikeouts in 53 innings pitched. He posted a 0.70 WHIP after issuing only 14 total walks while opposing batters hit just .131 against him.
BCLUW had a pair of second-team selections in senior pitcher Owen Myers and sophomore infielder Eathan Petermeier. North Tama had three second-team picks in senior catcher Kolt Knaack, junior outfielder Clayton Williams and sophomore infielder Kayvin Morris. GMG senior Grady Dieleman was a second-team outfielder as well.
Honorable mention selections included BCLUW junior Maverick Grafke, North Tama senior Chaz Hall, and GMG senior Joaquin Williams.
