At long last for the Detroit Tigers' bullpen, help is on the way.
The current American League Central leaders have signed relief pitcher Luke Jackson, who was just recently designated for assignment and later released by the Texas Rangers, as first reported by Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press.
The reliever was signed to a major league contract that will keep him in Detroit for the remainder of the 2025 season, with the Rangers paying the remainder of the $1.5 million contract that he signed with them over the offseason.
In 39 appearances with the Rangers in 2025, Jackson possesses a 4.11 earned run average with 24 strikeouts.
Jackson was drafted by the Rangers with the 45th overall pick in the 2010 MLB Draft, making his major league debut in 2015.
After two seasons, Jackson would then spend five seasons with the Atlanta Braves, winning the 2021 World Series with the team as they defeated the Houston Astros in six games.
After missing the 2022 season with Tommy John surgery, Jackson would then sign with the San Francisco Giants, before returning to Atlanta near the trade deadline last year.
Finishing out the season with the Braves, Jackson would return to Arlington at the start of 2025, before some decline in on-field production caused Texas to give Jackson the DFA, where the Tigers would then add a solution to their bullpen issues.
