KINGSFORD — The UPSSA Division 1-3 No. 1-ranked Kingsford Flivvers stayed unbeaten Tuesday evening with a 25-20, 25-15, 25-18 sweep of Menominee in a Great Northern Conference match at Kingsford High School.
Despite that, coach Jaclynn Kreider felt her team’s play didn’t live up to its standards during the match.
“We have to find a way to get better every night,” Kreider began. “I am not content with just winning when we are not playing at our potential. As a whole, I have seen us much better. If one or two players are having an off night, the rest of us need to step it up. We are not all going to be at our best every night, but we cannot as a group fall apart.”
Mylee Kreider and Mya Brunswick paced the Kingsford attack with seven and six kills, respectively. Staysha Jarski added four, Cassie Olson contributed three and Alyvia Kowalski and Mckynzee Kreider recorded two each.
Mckynzee Kreider topped the Flivvers (16-0) in assists with 12 and aces with seven. Karly Trevillian added 10 assists, while Onika Smeester finished with three aces, Adelyn Normand fired two aces and Trevillian and Alivia Nash chipped in with one each.

Nash also recorded a team-high 12 digs, Brunswick added 11, Mckynzee Kreider and Trevillian had four each, Kowalski finished with three, Mylee Kreider and Smeester wound up with two apiece and Normand and Emma Strom each had one dig.
Kingsford did not have a block in the match.
The Flivvers head back on the road tonight with a GNC match at Gladstone. Kingsford swept the Braves (8-11) 25-14, 25-13, 25-23 in the earlier matchup on Sept. 25 in Kingsford.
“This group is willing to work hard so we will do better,” Coach Kreider said. “Our intentions are in the right place so now we just need to be accountable to ourselves and each other.”
    Norway 3
    Iron Mountain 2
Coming off a one-week layoff, Norway pushed through at home against Iron Mountain for a 24-26, 25-18, 16-25, 25-13, 15-8 triumph.
Two of the Knights’ starters were personally impacted with the passing of a close family member.
“We started off slow, but we were able to get our bearings,” said Norway coach Meghan Rossato. “Cayleah Clifford did a great job serving as well as Payton Paquette. We’ve been switching this rotation up a bit and they really started us off.”
The players wore sleeves and ribbons tributing Nick Burklund.
“Kendall and Addy Burklund did a fantastic job of focusing on the game with the heightened stress they’ve gone through and I couldn’t be prouder of them,” Rossato said. “These girls kept their eye on the game and overcame much emotion and pulled off the win, again, for him.”
The Knights host North Central tonight.

    Superior Central 0
Forest Park came through with a 25-20. 25-16, 25-7 sweep at home Tuesday against Superior Central, although coach Bobbie Anderson said it wasn’t her team’s strongest showing.
“It took us some time to find our rhythm,” Anderson said. “We struggled early on with unforced errors, which allowed Superior Central to gain confidence and momentum in the first set.”
The Trojans, however, did improve with each set. “I’m proud of how the girls responded,” Anderson said. “Our two seniors, Elsie (Williams) and Ava (Fischer), led the offense with strong kills throughout the night.
