    MITCHELL KERNELS
    — No. 5 Mitchell Kernels volleyball, 13-4 on the season, will be at Aberdeen Central on Tuesday at 6:30 pm. The Kernels have won seven matches in a row and are currently fifth in Class AA seed points with six matches remaining in the regular season.
    — Mitchell Kernels football ends the season at home vs. No. 2 Yankton on Thursday night at 7 pm. The KORNer Booth pregame show starts at 6 pm on KORN News Radio.
    DAKOTA WESLEYAN
    — Dakota Wesleyan volleyball will be at Waldorf on Wednesday at 7:30 pm.
    — Dakota Wesleyan men’s soccer will be at Briar Cliff on Wednesday at 1 pm with three matches remaining in the regular season.
    — Dakota Wesleyan women’s soccer will be at Briar Cliff on Wednesday at 2:30 pm.
    — Dakota Wesleyan football hosts Waldorf for homecoming on Saturday at 2 pm.
    SOUTH DAKOTA STATE
    — South Dakota State safety Jalen B. Lee was named Monday as the Missouri Valley Football Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the Jackrabbits’ 35-14 road win on Saturday at Murray State. Lee ended two Murray State scoring chances with interceptions inside the 20-yard line as part of a four-interception performance by the Jackrabbit defense. Lee also had five tackles.
    — The Summit League and CBS Sports have announced its lineup of men’s and women’s basketball games that will be televised nationally on the CBS Sports Network this season, including three South Dakota State contests. The SDSU men had two games selected for the national audience and the SDSU women had one game picked up. All three games will be played at home at First Bank & Trust Arena. The SDSU women’s game against Texas on Sunday, December 21 will be played at 1 p.m. The SDSU’s men’s game against St. Thomas on Wednesday, February 4 will tip at 6 p.m. The Jackrabbits’ game against USD on Saturday, February 7 will start at 5 p.m.
    — South Dakota State volleyball will be at North Dakota on Tuesday at 7 pm.
    — South Dakota State women’s soccer will be at Kansas City on Thursday at 7 pm.
    — No. 2 South Dakota State hosts top-ranked North Dakota State in the annual Dakota Marker game on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 7 pm. on ESPNU. The Jackrabbit pregame show is at 5 pm on KORN News Radio.
    SOUTH DAKOTA
    — For the second-straight week, a USD kicker has garnered weekly honors from the Missouri Valley Football Conference. Senior kicker Zeke Mata has been named the Special Teams Player of the Week after his career day at Northern Iowa. Mata hit a 58-yeard field goal that proved to be the game-winner in the 17-14 victory at UNI on Saturday. The field goal was a school record and is tied for the second-longest field goal in conference history.
    — USD volleyball will be at North Dakota State on Tuesday at 7 pm.
    — USD women’s soccer will be at Omaha on Thursday at 7 pm.
    — USD football hosts Illinois State next Saturday at 1 pm.

    MLB
    — George Springer put Toronto ahead with a three-run homer in the seventh inning as the Blue Jays advanced to the World Series for the first time since 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners 4-3 in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series. Cal Raleigh and Julio Rodríguez each hit a solo home run for Seattle in the team’s first ever Game 7, but the Mariners squandered a 3-1 lead in the seventh and remain the only major league team without a World Series appearance. Toronto hosts the Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night in Game 1.
    — Albert Pujols is no longer a candidate to be the manager of the Los Angeles Angels, sources confirmed on Monday. Pujols is scheduled to interview for the San Diego Padres’ managerial vacancy on Wednesday. The Baltimore Orioles have also reached out with interest, though an interview has not been scheduled.

    — Jahmyr Gibbs scored on a 78-yard run in the second quarter, a from 5-yard out in the third to  account for a career-high 218 yards from scrimmage to lead the Detroit Lions in a 24-9 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Monday night. Tampa Bay was outgained by more than 200 yards in the first half, but trailed only 14-3 at the half because Detroit had an interception, fumble, turned it over on downs and missed a field goal.
    — Jaxon Smith-Njigba had his NFL-leading fifth 100-yard receiving game of the season as the Seattle Seahawks beat the Houston Texans 27-19. Smith-Njigba, who entered the game leading the league in yards receiving, gave Seattle a 14-0 lead late in the first quarter when he caught an 11-yard TD pass from Sam Darnold. In total, Smith-Njigba caught eight passes for 123 receiving yards.
    — Former All-Pro NFL running back Doug Martin has after a struggle with police officers who were taking him into custody while they were investigating a break-in at a home in Oakland. Martin, best known for his time with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, became unresponsive after being arrested early Saturday. He was transported by paramedics to a hospital where he died. He was 36. A cause of death has not been released. Martin was involved in a break-in and that a “brief struggle” happened as police were attempting to detain him.
    — Lamar Jackson remains sidelined with a right hamstring injury as the Baltimore Ravens returned from their bye. Jackson did not practice Monday for the Ravens, which creates uncertainty whether the two-time MVP will return for Sunday’s game against the Chicago Bears.

    — Shooting guard Christian Braun agreed to a $125 million, five-year contract extension with the Denver Nuggets. The 24-year-old Braun is coming off a season with the Nuggets in which he moved into the starting lineup. He averaged 15 points and 5 rebounds.
