Twins Get Unfortunate News on Struggling Pitcher Bailey Ober Before Game vs. Marlins originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
After putting together the MLB's longest winning streak back in the middle of May, the Minnesota Twins haven't been able to capitalize on the momentum and have a record of 9-20 dating back to May 31.
The Twins' health in their pitching staff has been an obvious reason behind the fall-off, and Minnesota received more unfortunate news before their game against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.
After experiencing discomfort in his hip and knee, starting pitcher Bailey Ober was placed on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday.
Ober was placed on the injured list, prompting the Twins to recall left-hander Kody Funderburk from Triple-A St. Paul.
he will join fellow starters Pablo Lopez and Zebby Matthews on the IL, making Minnesota's starting rotation even more thin while they try to stay relevant in the AL Wild Card picture.
The 29-year-old Ober has logged the second-most innings pitched for the Twins this season, but lingering lower-body injuries have clearly taken a toll on his performance in the past month.
Ober has been managing the injuries since the start of the season, and the team decided it was time for him to rest and recover as the season inches closer to the All-Star break. Ober has mentioned that the injuries have impacted his throwing mechanics, contributing a noticeable decline in his throwing velocity in 2025.
June was especially rough for Ober. In his last five starts before being moved to the IL, he posted a 9.00 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, and a 0-5 record.
The Minnesota Twins will look to snap their three-game losing streak as Simeon Woods-Richardson takes the mound against the Miami Marlins on Wednesday.
