Twins Send Clear Message to Jhoan Duran After MLB News originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Minnesota’s bullpen has quickly become one of the most reliable units in the American League.
Between May 1 and May 31, the Twins’ bullpen posted a collective 3.11 ERA, ranking second in the AL and recorded 10 saves across that span.
Central to this resurgence was their closer, Jhoan Duran, who cut through opposing lineups in dominant fashion.
Over 15 innings pitched, he recorded a 0.60 ERA with 20 strikeouts and converted seven of eight save opportunities. His WHIP was an impressive 1.13 and he held opposing batters to a .214 average.
Duran’s lights-out performance did not go unnoticed.
Those numbers earned him the American League Reliever of the Month Award for May, as announced by MLB on Tuesday.
Shortly after, the Minnesota Twins took to X to congratulate him with a post reading “THE JHOAN AND ONLY 🔥 Congratulations to Jhoan Duran on being named the @MLB AL Reliever of the Month for May!”
Durán signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks as an international free agent in December 2014 but didn’t reach the big leagues until April 2022, making his debut for the Twins on Opening Day.
In the 2023 season, he compiled 27 saves and finished with a 2.45 ERA in 59 relief appearances.
Now, in 202 appearances with Minnesota, he has amassed a 2.38 ERA, struck out 271 batters and recorded 67 saves.
Duran’s award-winning play has helped elevate the Twins in 2025, who currently hold a winning record of 32-27, just seven games behind the first-place Detroit Tigers.
