    Nov 13, 2025

Silver Creek VFW Post 6472 held a Veterans Day observance at the Post to thank those present who attended and to all veterans who have served past and present who helped preserve the freedoms we all enjoy today. Commander Richard Henry spoke of the many sacrifices the veterans have made to keep this country free and the need for the younger veterans to think about joining the VFW or American Legion, which are both housed at the Silver Creek Overseas Veterans Club. Quartermaster Ed Tofani spoke about how Veterans Day was called Armistice Day after WWI and was changed to Veterans Day in 1954 to honor all Veterans, not just the World War I veterans and the great sacrifices made by all who served. At the moment, World War II vets are almost all gone and the nation continues to lose a number of Korea and Vietnam vets. Membership is open to all veterans who served honorably as per qualifications of the National VFW and Legion organizations. VFW Auxiliary president Deanna Borello and auxiliary members provided the food. A special thank you to Aunt Millies and Tom’s Family Restaurant of Silver Creek for the donation of desserts. Membership information and applications can be picked up at the VFW Post 13 N. Main St. or call 716-934-4205.
