Mumbai: Despite recent health issues, former Indian cricketer Vinod Kambli made his way to the Wankhede Stadium to attend a function celebrating the 50th anniversary of the iconic stadium. Kambli, who had been in the hospital a few days earlier, was accompanied by friends as he arrived at the event honouring Mumbai’s former cricket players.
Sunil Gavaskar, Sanjay Manjrekar, and others also attended the event, but Kambli, who arrived in a coat and sunglasses, became the centre of attention. Many people approached him to see, talk, and take selfies. Despite having difficulty standing and walking, he sat on a chair and interacted with everyone. Meanwhile, he spoke in detail to 'Mathrubhumi.'
Despite health issues, how did you manage to attend this event?
Nothing serious… Isn't it the 50th anniversary of Wankhede? Isn’t this the land where I grew up playing cricket? How could I stay away when such an important event is taking place here?
How is your health?
The energy that Mumbai gives is enough to cure any illness. If you immerse yourself in the celebrations here, nothing feels like a problem.
What are your future plans?
Nothing has been decided yet. Something should be done, though. Perhaps something for the people of Mumbai…
Are you planning any cricket training programmes?
Nothing has been decided.
Have you ever visited Kerala?
Yes, I visited Kozhikode once.
Was it for cricket?
No, it wasn't related to cricket. I came to see Kerala and travelled around Kozhikode. It was years ago. Kerala is really beautiful.
