There were some memorable football games with impressive individual performances by teams and players in the Greater Savannah area in Week 8 of the high school season.
South Effingham junior Khyran White ran for 270 yards and a touchdown in an overtime win over Greenbrier.
Richmond Hill linebacker Jaylon Deal had 21 tackles to lead the Wildcats to a Region 1-6A win over Camden County.
Savannah Christian’s Wesley Hughes had five receptions for 144 yards and a touchdown and added an interception in a win over Savannah Country Day.
In softball, Effingham County’s Ansleigh Giordano earned a pair of huge wins in the pitching circle, the second coming in a 4-3 victory over South Effingham to win the Region 1-5A title.

The junior was 5 of 7 passing for 117 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 53 yards on four carries in a blowout win over visiting Warner Robins.
The senior rushed for 190 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries in a win over Islands.
The senior, who has committed to play at Coastal Carolina, helped lead the Wildcats to the Region 1-6A title with a win over Lowndes. She led the region this year with 271 kills.
The senior had 18 kills, 18 digs, 15 serves received and three aces as the Cavs swept Islands to win their second straight Region 3-3A championship.
The senior rushed for 51 yards and a score, caught two passes for 18 yards and a touchdown and ran back a kickoff for a touchdown among his 157 yards in kick returns in a win over Windsor Forest.
The junior went 4 for 7 with two doubles and two RBIs in a win over Greenbrier in the Region 1-5A semifinals and a loss to Effingham County in the region title game. She is hitting .544 with 13 doubles, eight homers and 38 RBIs on the season.
The junior quarterback was 15 of 21 passing for 331 yards with two touchdown passes and rushed for a score in a win over Long County.
The junior went 3-for-4 with two homers and five RBIs in a win over Camden County.
The senior rushed for 220 yards and three touchdowns on 26 carries to lead the Panthers to a win over Johnson.
The senior had five catches for 144 yards and a touchdown and had three tackles and an interception in the win over Savannah Country Day.
The junior finished 40th in the Alexander / ASICS Invitational with a time of 15:39.28 on the 3.1 mile course.
The sophomore was 23rd in the Alexander / ASICS Invitational with a time of 18:14.31 on the 3.1 mile course.
The junior ran for 82 yards and a score on 12 carries and was 8 of 21 passing for 153 yards and two touchdowns in a loss at Liberty County.
The sophomore was 6 of 7 passing for 182 yards and four touchdowns in a win at Beaufort Academy.
The senior had four catches for 120 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 45 yards and a pair of scores in a win over Harvest Community.
The junior had four catches for 126 yards and a touchdown in the win over Savannah Country Day.
