    Waterstone College cricket team competes in India – The Citizen

    The Waterstone College first cricket team recently embarked on an unforgettable 10-day cross-country tour in India, where they competed against elite schools and renowned academies in Kolkata.
    The team played eight highly competitive matches, gaining invaluable experience against top-tier opponents.
    The tour saw Waterstone College take on esteemed institutions such as Asian International School and Harvard International Boys School, along with prestigious academies like the Yuvraj Singh Academy and Behala Cricket Academy.
    Facing strong opposition, the team showcased remarkable determination, securing two hard-fought victories.
    Beyond the matches, the experience allowed the players to bond, refine their skills, and grow both individually and as a team.
    Several players delivered standout performances, demonstrating their talent and composure under pressure:
    Batting Excellence: Taahir Mia led the team with an outstanding 298 runs at an average of 42.57. His remarkable unbeaten 86 against Chandannagar Sporting Club was instrumental in securing a crucial victory.
    Huzaifah Valli made significant contributions with 225 runs at an average of 32.14, reinforcing the team’s batting strength.
    Bowling Brilliance: Zahid Bismillah spearheaded the attack, claiming 11 wickets over the course of the tour.
    Gregory Ashby provided strong support, taking nine wickets and maintaining pressure on the opposition.
    Roxanne Nel, school marketer of Waterstone College said: “The boys demonstrated remarkable resilience and outstanding teamwork, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements.”
    Their performance was made possible through the unwavering support of the Waterstone College sports department, led by head of sport Deirdre Martin, and the school’s executive head, JC Engelbrecht.
    Their dedication to the growth and development of sport at Waterstone continues to inspire student-athletes to reach new heights.
