Newly appointed Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Devajit Saikia opens up on India’s performance in Tests. Saikia who took over as BCCI secretary after Jay Shah joined ICC admitted that the Men in Blue are currently struggling in the longest format of the game.
Team India who featured in both World Test Championship (WTC) finals had lost 3-0 in a three Test match series against New Zealand and after that, Pat Cummins-led Australia defeated India 3-1 in Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. “It is a big challenge because if you see, we are not doing good in Test cricket in the last two series against Australia as well as New Zealand. So, immediately we are having the England series so far as T20 is concerned and thereafter the big event of the Champions Trophy in Dubai. We have to think about one (tournament) at a time. We have had a lot of discussions during the last two days and we are trying to streamline; whatever our drawbacks are, we have to overcome them,” he told reporters at the BCCI headquarters.
Sakia said that BCCI are currently focussing on the India vs England white ball series and the upcoming Champions Trophy 2025.
“We are taking all the expert opinion also. So, we look forward to a very positive outcome from these discussions and exercise. Our immediate challenge is the England series (at home) and thereafter the Champions Trophy. I will carry forward the work done by ICC chairman and former BCCI secretary Jay Shah,” he added.
Team India are scheduled to play a five-match T20I series followed by a three-match ODI series against England which will be the last assignment for Men in Blue before the Champions Trophy 2025. The Champions Trophy is scheduled to start from February 19 and India will play all their matches in Dubai.
