On Friday, in Leeds, rising India star B Sai Sudharsan received his maiden Test cap for the series opener of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. He thus became India’s 317th Test cricketer. The Tamil Nadu batter has already represented India in white-ball cricket – three ODIs and a T20I – and is now set to make his Test bow in England.
India Test stalwart Cheteshwar Pujara presented the 23-year-old with his Test cap.

A let-handed batter, Sudharsan has been making all the right noises since getting into the limelight through his eye-catching performances in the Tamil Nadu Premier League where he finished as its second-highest scorer in 2021. He was fast-tracked into the state teams and made his white-ball debuts for Tamil Nadu in 2021 later that year and his Ranji Trophy debut in 2022. Since then, he has scored 1957 runs in 29 first-class matches, at an average of around 40, with seven hundreds to his name.
