WNBA Fans Are Complaining After Caitlin Clark-Cheryl Reeve News originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
There is a bit of history between Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark and Minnesota Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve.
The veteran shot-caller, who coached Team USA at the Paris Olympics last year, was called out for her alleged role in Clark being left out of the national squad. On top of that, Reeve was also accused of publicly criticizing Clark before the former Iowa star’s WNBA debut last year.
These two are now about to cross paths. This is after WNBA Communications announced on Thursday that Reeve will be coaching Team Clark in the upcoming WNBA All-Star Game on July 19.
Reeve’s Lynx has the best record in the league as of Thursday (15-2), which earned the 58-year-old the privilege to coach one of the two teams in the All-Star Game. Clark, on the other hand, was previously named team captain after receiving the most All-Star votes from the fans.
More than a few fans were displeased with this development and quickly took to social media to air their complaints.
“This system is dumb. Either bring in someone from outside the league like last year or let the captains pick their coach,” a comment on X read.
“Damn CC got the opps as coach, swap em please,” another said.
“Uh we wanted someone who can run the CC offense,” a user wrote.
“No one wants Cheryle [Reeve]. She is WNBA old guard. We need new energy,” demanded a fan.
    “Please swap coaches,” said another.
“Y’all messy as hell for this. Why not let the captains pick the coach or let the fans vote for the coaches? We don’t care about the advantages give Clark Brondello,” a user posted.
It is also worth noting that Reeve will be going up against her star player on the Lynx, Napheesa Collier, who was also named team captain after receiving the second-highest number of fan votes. This adds another layer of intrigue to this storyline.
There’s no denying, however, that the more compelling narrative involves Clark playing under Reeve for the first time in her career.
