Lynchburg, Va. – The University of Lynchburg women’s soccer team prepares to complete its annual early-season trek to the Roanoke Invitational in Salem, Va. to face Denison and Rhodes in a pair of weekend matches.
Lynchburg will open the regular season on Saturday, Aug. 30 at 11:00 a.m. against the Denison Big Red at Donald J. Kerr Stadium. Sunday’s tilt between Lynchburg and Rhodes is slated to begin at 11:00 a.m., also at Donald J. Kerr Stadium.
The Hornets began last year’s campaign at the Kean Kickoff Tournament, facing the likes of Stockton and Kean on back-to-back days. The Hill City squad came away with a victory against Kean and a draw versus Stockton. Neither team scored against the Hornets.
Following a defeat in the ODAC Semifinals to Virginia Wesleyan, the team finished 2024 with a 12-5-3 overall record. Lynchburg held an undefeated 8-0-2 record in regular-season conference play, despite dropping a contest to ODAC rival Washington & Lee in the nonconference schedule.
Upon the new season, Lynchburg was selected to finish third in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference preseason rankings. The Hornets boast 14 freshmen and prepare to utilize a reconstructed back line, following the graduation of Haleigh Casey, Elora Grochowski and Claire Lloyd.
Denison concluded its 2024 campaign with a 12-5-3 record, falling to Wittenberg in the North Coast Athletic Conference Semifinals. The team posted a 6-2-1 record between road and neutral-site games.
Rhodes finished last season with a 12-4-1 mark, losing the Southern Athletic Association Championship to Sewanee in the presumptive final match of the season.

After this weekend swing, the Hornets will return to Lynchburg for its first home contests of the season against New Jersey City on Friday, Sept. 5 at 7 p.m. and Meredith on Saturday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.
