Tonight, the big final of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) Season 3 will be played at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. But where has all the excitement been? Everywhere! Across four cities, fans have packed the stadiums. In Bengaluru, the rush to get in has been compared to the Kumbh Mela! RCB fans at WPL have been as crazy as those at the IPL. In Vadodara, people have loudly supported the Gujarat Giants, led by Ashleigh Gardner. Mumbai has cheered since Season 1, when it was the only host city. And now, even Lucknow is getting in on the action.
But here’s the big question: How fast can WPL grow?
When women’s football started its Women’s Super League (WSL) in England back in 2011, only 2,500 people showed up for the first match. Today, WSL has an $84 million TV deal! Some say that’s still tiny compared to the Premier League, but women’s football is now a real career—players, coaches, and managers are making a living from it.
So, instead of asking when WPL will win a Champions Trophy, let’s focus on what’s already happening. A 9-year-old girl, when asked about her cricket hero, named Indian pacer Renuka Singh! That’s huge. WPL is building real teams, real fans, and real idols for the future.
Will the league grow bigger next year with more teams and cities? That needs careful planning. But if you want to know how WPL is doing right now—just listen to the cheers tonight!
