The New York Yankees got some good news on Wednesday, courtesy of the Houston Astros.
The Yankees' trade deadline pursuit of slugging third baseman Eugenio Suarez came with a catch: If Suarez's Diamondbacks got hot at the right time, they could choose not to sell.
But then Arizona played the AL West-leading Astros and got swept. Selling should be on the table for sure.
Suarez is the top name available, and many more teams than the Yankees want him, too. But in New York, they at least know they'll have a chance now.
The right-handed Suarez has belted 36 home runs this season already. He was an All Star and has already hit five homers since the break.

The Yankees have other options at third base if Suarez ends up with another team, like the Mariners, Tigers or Cubs.
But the biggest possible win to solve the black hole at the Bronx hot corner would be Suarez.
Suarez himself hinted on Sunday that the Diamondbacks may not sell if they kept winning. But they didn't keep winning, so it's a moot point.
