Lifeline of Cricket
Former India batter Sanjay Manjrekar is unhappy with captain Rohit Sharma for his high-risk and aggressive approach against the Australian pacers in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. He has warned the batter for the remaining two games at the MCG and SCG. Rohit has scored only 19 runs at an average of 6.33 in the two red-ball matches.
He missed the series opener but returned for the second contest. The right-handed batter demoted himself in the order to allow KL Rahul to continue as an opener. However, he has been unable to set the stage on fire at No.6.
Speaking on ESPNcricinfo, Manjrekar told Rohit to refrain from playing aggressive cricket.
“The big game is coming up. He looked good in South Africa when he went after the bowlers while chasing a small total. But in Australia, he has to be careful as they have world class bowlers. They are bowling superbly and it is not easy to play high-risk shots. He tried that against New Zealand at home but failed. Rohit is repeating the same mistakes against Australia,” Manjrekar said.
Rohit has been in poor form in the last seven Tests, averaging under 12. He has scored just one fifty in the last 13 innings, with eight single-digit scores coming from his bat.
