The hosts are still trailing by 116 runs.
Earlier, Yashasvi Jaiswal contributed with 82 runs after Australia had posted 474 runs in their first innings. Steven Smith scored a century with 140 runs, supported by half-centuries from Sam Konstas, Marnus Labuschagne, and Usman Khawaja. India won the first Test in Perth, while Australia claimed victory in the second Test in Adelaide. The series is tied 1-1 going into the Melbourne game, with the Gabba Test ending in a draw.
