Lifeline of Cricket
Shaheen Shah Afridi has been in fine form in the white-ball cricket since the tour of Australia. He bowled well in the recently concluded ODI series in South Africa. However, he was not named in the squad for the two-Test series against the Proteas. It has been revealed that the seamer himself requested the selectors and the team management not to consider him for the red-ball matches.
He wants to concentrate on the upcoming Champions Trophy, which will be played in February-March next year. He also spoke to new head coach Aaqib Javed.
Pakistan have no chance to qualify for the final of the World Test Championship, but if South Africa win one game against them, they will make it to the summit clash set to be played at Lord’s in June 2025.
“Shaheen doesn’t want to play Test cricket until the Champions Trophy,” news agency PTI quoted a source as saying.
When Pakistan announced the team for the Test matches against South Africa, Aaqib revealed that Shaheen had been rested to manage his workload before the Champions Trophy.
However, he will play in the Bangladesh Premier League and has informed the board that he will manage his workload during the competition.
“He informed the board about the lucrative contract and agreed to manage his workload. Shaheen said that he would be ready to play the tri-series against New Zealand and South Africa before the Champions Trophy,’ the source added.
Pakistan will play two Test matches at home in January 2025, and Afridi will miss that series as well.
