    Velva top team at Linton Holiday Tourney – Minot Daily News

    Kari Gibb/MDN Bishop Ryan junior Cade Okeson at 285 in previous action, took 1st place at the Linton Holiday Tournament this year over the weekend. 25 teams participated with Velva winning the team score and the Lions with two first place grapplers took the most top finishes.
    LINTON – With the holidays happening, many local Class B boys wrestling teams attended the Linton Holiday Tournament over the weekend. With 25 teams participating, the Velva Aggies won the team category with the most points while locally, Bishop Ryan had two of the three wrestlers take home first place finishes while the third rep for the Lions placed fourth at the event.
    Bishop Ryan
    Drew Zwak posted an 11-0 record, won first place at the 172-lbs classification and earned 38 points for the three man team representing the Lions at the event. Teammate Cade Okeson finished with a 13-0 record for first place as well and totalled 41 points for the team with his win at 285 for the Lions.
    At 114 for Bishop Ryan was Peyton Seay who went 8-3 for fourth place and earned 25 points for the Lions total. As a three grappler team, Bishop Ryan earned 104 points and took tenth place overall.
    Des Lacs-Burlington
    Kenny Smith at 189 and Jonathan Smith at 215 and took third place for the Lakers at the tournament. Carter Kaul took sixth at 285 while Breyden Buee was seventh at 152 for Des Lacs-Burlington.
    At 114, Tucker Miller placed eighth and the Lakers posted 92 points for 14th place as a team.
    Kenmare-Bowbells
    William Cook won second place for the Honkers at 145 for the tournament. Teammate Lincoln Spear took third place at 172 for Kenmare-Bowbells. Connor Melin placed fourth at 121 while Landon Spear was seventh at 160 at the event.
    Cam Peterson and Paul Melin each placed eighth at 107 and 127 respectively for the Honkers as Kenmare-Bowbells tallied 110 points for ninth place overall.
    Stanley
    The winner at 127 at the meet was Cohen Bell representing the Blue Jays. Brayden Fritel placed seventh at 133 for Stanley as the Blue Jays posted 69.5 and tied for 18th place in Linton.
    Velva
    Carson Hildre fought his way to first place in a very competitive 152 weight class. Isaiah Hackman at 114 placed second for the Aggies while Lucas Soli was third at 133 for Velva.
    At 145, Brextyn Yanish and Maddox Campbell at 160 each took third place for Velva. Pitch Hager at 127 was fourth while Madden Barstad took sixth at 172 at the meet. Jayden Foss also took sixth for Velva at 215 while Noah Werner finished tenth at 189 for the Aggies.
    Velva had 216.5 points to win the team score with solid performances by the grapplers in nearly each weight classification earning points.
